THE GREEN PRODUCTION ALLIANCE

Background

In 2008, feature film physical production executives and producers gathered to discuss environmental and procurement issues impacting their community. Recognizing the need to build partnerships between individuals passionate about sustainable practices, this group joined with environmental executives at the majors to identify potential areas for collaboration. Today, this group serves as the foundation of The Green Production Alliance.

 Pacific Green partner The Brand Live Group manages the exclusive train traveling daily between Vancouver and Whistler Mountain during the 2010 Winter Games.  The estimated emissions associated with the fuel burned by the locomotives as well as the vehicles and staff that support the daily operation of the train have been offset with Pacific Green ISO 14064.2 verified and registered offsets.  The train, known as the Rocky Mountaineer, runs regular trips during the tourist season through the scenic mountain rail routes of British Columbia.

Part of the Stageline Group, MSR mobile Stage Rentals is a network of rental centers that together offer a fleet of over 85 Stageline units strategically located across North America. Reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by minimising transport compared to other staging solutions. A trailblazer in its industry, the firm is now playing the same role with regards to the environment, equipping itself with new industrial facilities that comply with LEED certification standards.

Pacific Green is pleased to sponsor Rex Weyler, co-founder of Green Peace International and director of the original Greenpeace Foundation, to deliver his renowned talk on resource use and overshoot.

Rex is a notable author, journalist and publisher with numerous books and publications in circulation. Since leaving Greenpeace in 1982, Weyler has remained active in environmental and peace issues. In 1991, he helped draft dioxin emission levels for pulp mills in British Columbia. In 2006, he served as Program Coordinator for World Peace Forum.

Music Seeds International is a songwriting program that enables students in underprivileged parts of the world to discover the joy of writing, singing and recording their own songs.  MSI give students a chance to make the decisions; to be the creators.  The program gives them a voice, a hand and a step up into their imaginations.  Uniting with music brings peace, peace brings cooperation, cooperation helps meet the challenge of hunger, water shortage and climate change.

As a provider of carbon offset programs, Pacific Green has joined the Markit Environmental Registry.  Formerly TZ1, Markit is committed to monitoring and open reporting of the sales, purchase and movement of carbon commodities.

Western Canada's premier event power provider joins the Pacific Green Network.  Viridian Power supplies access, distribution and management of temporary hydro power for concerts, sports events, trade shows, and music tours throughout Western Canada. Massive outdoor lighting set-ups consume equally massive amounts of electricty ofteh produced by rows of generators. Switching away from generators to clean hydro-electric power signigicantly reduces the footprint of any event.

Viridian's allied company Trinity Power also supplies temporary power for Motion Picture Production in British Columbia.

Pacific Green joins the Brand Live Group to green Summer Sessions at Ambelside, West Vancouver, the benefit concert in support of the Sarah McLaughlin Foundation.

Pacific Green connected the concert organizers with green suppliers, recycling services, bio fuels, organic catering and a Pacific Green Carbon Offset program to reduce the event footprint and neutralize the CO2 emissions from fuel and energy consumption.   Pacific Green is also proud to have organized other levels of sponsorship for the event and will continue to support the Foundation in future endeavours.
